Pastor's Update

In the Old Testament book of Daniel, Chapter 3, King Nebuchadnezzer of Babylon set himself up as a god to be worshipped.  Three Jewish young men refused to worship any other God, but the God of the bible.  The king was very angry and decided to throw the three young Jews into the fiery furnace and burn them up.  What was the three young men’s response to the king before their being thrown into the furnace?  “If our God wants to He can deliver us alive!  But if not, He will also take care of us if we meet a fiery end.”

Have you noticed lately how things seem to be getting out of control?  The cost of food seems to keep going up every time you go to the store.  Even though the price of gas has gone down, it still cost an arm and a leg to fill up your tank, if you can afford to fill up your tank!  Just wait until this winter when you start to get your gas bills or fill up your oil tank.  To top it all off the government is going another trillion dollars in debt to bail out the stock market.  These are uncertain times at best and scary times for some as they watch their savings slowly disappear.

How do we Christians react to all the uncertainty and fear that is in our society at this time?  I like what the three Jewish boys said to the king.  Our God will take care of us regardless of what happens.  They had their eyes on the true prize, which was eternal in nature and only available through a relationship with their God.  Any other belief or attitude and they would have been burned up and become ashes.

What does all this mean to us today?  If you are afraid of all that is happening in our world today, take heart.  Our God is still in control.  He knows who His people are.  Even if we struggle paying our bills or getting out of bed in the morning or are even terminally ill, God is in control.  No matter what happens, He has your best interest at heart.  Just ask those three Jewish boys when you see them in heaven some day.

                                                                                    Yours in Christ,
